The device must automatically release only when the bin is lifted onto and tilted by the refuse removal truck i.e. when the bin is inverted. This should allow the device to release and the bin lid to open and the bin contents to be emptied without the operator#s intervention. The locking device must be able to be mounted externally onto the bin body in a way that this will not structurally compromise the bin's main function and to not affect the lifting action, sensors or lifter parts on the vehicle. To facilitate the mechanical loading of the bins these locking systems must operate on a gravity/pressure mechanism which if turned upside down and/or kinetic energy is applied to the device, will activate the releasing of the mechanism and the opening of the bin lid, so that the contents of the bin fall into the refuse removal truck. The device must be robust, durable and corrosion resistant. Users (residents and removal staff) must be able to easily open or close the bin for filling or emptying.
